)Mobility and cloud remain hot topics in the industry, as the announcements from SAP, RedPrairie, and IBM demonstrate. “60 percent of organizations are ready to embrace cloud computing over the next five years as a means of growing their businesses and achieving competitive advantage,” according to a new IBM study of more than 3,000 global CIOs. “The figure nearly doubles the number of CIOs who said they would utilize cloud in IBM’s 2009 CIO study.”
No doubt, this increased interest in cloud solutions is leading software vendors to develop strategies and partnerships in this area. Here is an excerpt from the SAP press release about its partnership with Amazon:
Amazon and SAP will collaborate to offer customers options and convenience when deploying and supporting SAP solutions in the cloud. New and existing SAP customers can take advantage of the AWS “pay per use” model allowing businesses to reduce infrastructure costs and total cost of ownership. Customers will also be able to quickly scale capacity, both up and down as computing requirements change, paying only for the resources used.
The first wave of supported SAP products, available today, includes the entire suite of SAP BusinessObjects solutions and SAP Rapid Deployment solutions supported on Linux Platforms. In the coming months, SAP and AWS plan to further collaborate to launch additional SAP products, including support for enterprise resource planning (ERP) landscapes from SAP and Windows instances.
Of course, it was only a month ago that Amazon suffered a serious disruption of its Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) service (read Amazon’s summary of the problem here ). This disruption underscored the importance of due diligence and risk management when considering a cloud solution, a topic we’ve addressed in previous postings (see “ The Next 9/11: The Risk of a Supply Chain Cyberwar ” and “ When a Software-as-a-Service Solution Goes Down ”).
On the mobility front, SAP announced solutions focused on field service, retail, and asset management, while RedPrairie announced solutions for transportation, distribution, and retail store roles. Here is a quote from RedPrairie’s press release:
“We believe that places like the warehouse and retail store have the potential to be completely run from mobile devices,” said Tom Kozenski, VP of Product Strategy at RedPrairie. “Mobile technology is an intuitive, no-train platform that is ideal for certain RedPrairie users to leverage in their day-to-day interactions with our software.

Interesting, good design for a kit type home. Looks straight foward if you want to build it yourself. I do take exception with reffering to this as a log home. Logs do not come from a forest with straight planed and kilned dried planks, with insulation sandwhich between said planks, nor are the logs tounge and groove! True logs have a taper from the butt end to the small end. True logs have bumps, knots and sometimes bows. I aint knockning the sing sips, which is actual what they are, but to call this a log home is just a marketing tool.
