Firearms Review: The Ruger Mini-30 Tactical

The Ruger Mini-14 should not require the introduction to most American shooters. He has been in production for over thirty years and have been made in various configurations and sizes at this time. In addition to being available as a semi-automatic Ruger pistol was also in a format select-fire for sale to police and called the CA-556.

The Mini-14 has been known for reliability, but one of the pervious complaints about the Mini-14 was the general lack of precision. Although the gun was never designed as a target rifle, some samples were capable of only marginal accuracy. Ruger was aware of the complaint continues, and, realizing that the design was getting a little long in the tooth, substantially redesigned the Mini-14 in 2005. Some internal components have been modified and redesigned for improved durability, but the big change was the introduction of heavier hammer forged barrels profile significantly improve the accuracy potential.

Enter the Mini-30 Tactical I have not really messed with a Mini in probably 25 years, except for a few mags I ran across an AC-556 a couple of years. I have some fond memories of varmint shooting with my father and brother with a Mini, but years ago and I have not had the Mini a second look until recently announced that Ruger they formed a new version called the Mini-30 Mini-30 Tactical.

In the chapter dealing with weapons and equipment, Mr.Scott-Donelan wrote, in a word, "Her precision, lightness and reliability, combined with the far superior firepower and ballistics, it is almost a perfect choice for a weapon tracking."

I recently attended a class taught by David El Paso and its crew and came away impressed. These guys have all been there, done that, done repeatedly over a couple and lived to talk about it. If you need training in team tactics and monitoring, I can not think of a better framework instructor.

The Mini-30 features a hammer forged tactical 16.12 "barrel and is threaded 5/8-24 to accept the most.308 flash hiders and muzzle brake. Ruger pistol ships with the AC-556 Flash Hider. The biggest change compared to previous models - and most exciting one - is that the gun now comes with a factory Ruger 20-round magazine. The gun is in the standard white cardboard box with a Ruger magazine, the usual paperwork, a series of rings and scope of an inch.

I have for sale a 1975 Ruger M77 Varmint in .22-250. This is a nice example of the earlier "tang safety" and red butt pad models. I don't know a lot about this particular rifle. I bought it last week from the original owner to replace my Remington 700 BDL "Varmint Special" in .22-250. My Remington is nearly pristine and I get a little anxious taking it out hunting in the field. So I thought I'd get this and sell my Remington since I am not a keeper of safe queens. So I thought. I took it out and shot it with some Remington 55gr SP factory rounds and it is a nice sub-MOA rifle (aren't all .22-250s). The bluing is still pretty nice over all. Shows some blue polished off at the tip of the barrel from gun case probably. Stock is in pretty good condition with no dents, cracks or big scratches. Trigger feels real nice and is adjustable. Bolt operates smoothly. The original owner seems to have taken good care of it. You don't see a lot of these old Varmint models for sale. I don't want to use the "rare" description but you certainly can't find many when searching through old GunBroker adds.
